July 16–20, 2018 • 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. • For students entering grades 10, 11, 12
Inver Hills Community College is hosting Summer Academy for Environmental, Food & Agricultural Sciences Monday, July 16, through Friday, July 20, 2108, on the college’s main campus in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota. Also known as Summer Ag Academy, the annual event represents a partnership between Dakota County 4-H/University of Minnesota Extension and Inver Hills.
Kristin Digiulio, Inver Hills biology faculty and agricultural sciences outreach coordinator, reported that the academy is for students entering grades 10, 11, 12.
“As a Summer Ag Academy student, you will explore the environmental, food and agricultural sciences during fun, hands-on and interactive sessions,” Kristin said. “You’ll practice wildlife and forestry management, create your own plantings for pollinator health, learn small animal care, make cheese and discover food science. You’ll also experiment with sustainable practices for clean water, soil and air. Best of all you’ll wear waders, catch frogs and play in the dirt.”
Kristin added that certified teachers and content experts will be leading each session. Summer Ag Academy will include field trips to the campuses of the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, and the University of Wisconsin, River Falls. Friday, July 20, will focus on career and college readiness. A parent workshop will be offered to help parents and families navigate college options and financing.
