Inver Hills Theatre presents: “The Hitchhiker” and “…And an Echo Murmured Back”
Inver Hills Theatre is presenting An Assembly of Phantasms on the Inver Hills YouTube channel. The presentation features two acts. “The Hitchhiker” by Lucille Fletcher tells the story of a man named Ronald Adams, who keeps encountering the same solitary hitchhiker as he drives alone across the country. At first, Adams is curious as to how the hitchhiker seems to be everywhere he goes, but then his sense of dread gradually increases.
The second act, “…And an Echo Murmured Back,” is based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe. Shawna C. Evans wrote the adaptation. Her characters are alive, but engrossed with death.

My name is Ronald Adams. I’m thirty–six years of age, unmarried, tall, dark with a black mustache. I drive a 1978 Ford, license number 6V7989. I was born in Brooklyn. All this I know. I know I’m at this moment—I’m perfectly sane, that it’s not me that’s gone mad—but something else, something utterly beyond my control.
— “The Hitchhiker” by Lucille Fletcher
This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, “Lenore!”—
Merely this and nothing more.— “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe
