INVER GROVE HEIGHTS – Individuals who want to earn a bachelor’s degree in psychology or criminal justice can now do so south of the river on the Inver Hills Community College campus in Inver Grove Heights.
The programs are offered through Metropolitan State University beginning this fall. Inver Hills already offers bachelor’s degrees in accounting, business, organizational management and leadership, allied health care management, and social work, through agreements with Concordia University, St. Paul; Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota; and The College of St. Scholastica. Concordia’s Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) program also is available on the Inver Hills campus.
Metro State’s Bachelor of Arts in Psychology degree is available on campus via a direct, seamless transfer from Inver Hills’ Associate in Arts with Emphasis in Psychology degree.
“Our goal is to provide an opportunity for students to complete their bachelor’s degree in a familiar, comfortable environment,” said Anne Johnson, dean of business and social sciences at Inver Hills. “Inver Hills has a psychology lab—which is unique to community colleges—that will be used more extensively with the advanced courses on campus.”
Gary Starr, chair of the Psychology department at Metropolitan State, said the partnership also is an opportunity to strengthen and enhance the innovative, award-winning Interdisciplinary Community Garden project, on which both colleges have collaborated.
The Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice degree is available via a direct, seamless transfer from Inver Hills’ Associate in Science in Criminal Justice or Associate in Science in Law Enforcement degrees.
“Metropolitan State University is pleased to build a partnership with Inver Hills Community College based on our mutual strengths in serving adult learners,” said Ginny Arthur, provost and vice president of Academic Affairs at Metropolitan State. “This partnership serves the needs of students seeking to complete a four-year degree at a convenient and familiar location. Both Inver Hills and Metropolitan State provide an extraordinary education at an exceptional value. We look forward to developing additional options for students to earn a bachelor’s degree on the Inver Hills campus.”
