College provides full array of support services for military veterans and servicemembers
2022 Military Times Best for Vets: Colleges has ranked Inver Hills Community College 10th for all ranked colleges in the Midwest. Best for Vets included five ranking categories this year. Along with its Midwest ranking, Inver Hills was recognized in the following categories:
- 70th in Overall
- 8th in At Least 2 But Less Than 4 Years
- 9th in Primarily Online Education
- 57th in Public
According to Military Times, “This year’s Best for Vets: Colleges survey includes responses from more than 300 schools that answered more than 70 questions on their services and programs specific to military students—whether active-duty, veteran, or families and dependents of servicemembers.
“Student success metrics (completion, retention, persistence, GPA1) are the most important factor in determining the relative ranking of schools on this year’s list, followed closely by the range of military-specific resources and the level of financial assistance they offer. Admissions and registration policies, human resources and assorted miscellaneous considerations also factor into the scoring rubric.”
Janet Lorenzo serves as the college’s Military and Veteran Services coordinator. Janet is a U.S. Navy veteran and Inver Hills alumna. She was exceptionally engaged as an Inver student, serving as an assistant in the Military & Veteran Services Center and vice president of Club V.A.L.O.R., a chapter of Student Veterans of America (SVA).
Janet also chaired the Inver Grove Heights Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Campaign and oversaw BTYR functions at Inver Hills. She understands what veterans and military servicemembers require to be successful in college.
“Our Best for Vets ranking speaks volumes of how we are winning together,” Janet said. “Thank you for the recognition—we will continue to serve those who have served.”
