Photography courses flyerThe Art department at Inver Hills Community College is offering two photography courses for spring and fall semesters 2026, ART 1131: Introduction to Digital Photography and ART 1132: Digital Photography II. The courses are free electives in the 60-credit Art Transfer Pathway A.F.A., but can be taken by anyone with an interest in digital photography.

Both courses feature zero textbook costs and fulfill Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) Goal Area 6A. Students can also check out camera equipment at no cost.

ART 1131: Introduction to Digital Photography

3 credits

Explores the application of the digital camera, digital imaging software, and digital printing technology as means for individual creative expression in the fine arts. Students will engage in technological, aesthetic, conceptual aspects of digital photography using historical and contemporary practices in as a guide. Students may not receive credit for this course if credit has been awarded for ART 1121.

Goal 6: Humanities, Fine Arts, and Literature
Expand knowledge of the human condition and human cultures, especially in relations to behaviors, ideas, and values as expressed in works of human imagination and thought. Take courses from both Fine Arts (6A) and Humanities (6B).

ART 1132: Digital Photography II

3 credits

Expands on the exploration of digital camera function, digital image editing software and digital printing technology introduced in Art 1131. This course will emphasize student’s development of individual artistic voice while engaging with technological, aesthetic, and conceptual issues in their work. Course may be repeated for credit.

Prerequisites: ART 1121: Digital Photography I (no lab) or ART 1131: Introduction to Digital Photography
