Gallery 120: Disjecta Membre (For Charles Wright)

On view September 28 through October 23, 2026, at Gallery 120, Disjecta Membra features a light-based installation by artist Charles Matson Lume. Rather than focusing on traditional objects, the exhibition invites viewers to experience the transformative qualities of light itself and how it interacts with everyday materials.

Gallery 120 is located in the Fine Arts building lobby at Inver Hills Community College.

Gallery hours:

  • Monday & Wednesday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday & Thursday: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Closed Fridays

Lume’s work explores themes of light, poetry, beauty, and mortality. Drawing from more than three decades of artistic investigation, he describes light as “slippery, ephemeral, and mostly unmanageable.” His installations reveal moments where light and materials interact in unexpected ways, transforming ordinary objects into something lyrical and contemplative.

A longtime student of poetry, Lume often dedicates his installations to poets and believes poetry has the power to uncover what has been hidden or overlooked. This influence can be felt throughout Disjecta Membra, which encourages viewers to slow down, observe closely, and discover new meaning in the familiar.

The exhibition also reflects Lume’s belief that beauty is an essential part of daily life. Using materials that might otherwise be considered disposable or insignificant, he transforms them through light to create moments of wonder and reflection.
