Inver Hills Community College is calling all students to action. Join the Growth and Purpose (GAP) Year program and gain paid professional experience and academic credits while pursuing your passion with a purpose. Inver Hills is offering students the unique opportunity to discover and research a favorite project or interest before enrolling in college full-time.

More about the GAP program

This is an uncertain time, but it doesn’t have to be a wasted year. Inver Hills is proud to offer an exciting new gap year opportunity. The Growth and Purpose (GAP) Year program allows you to explore an area of interest while enhancing your resume and academic transcript. GAP Year participants:

  • Get an opportunity to earn college credit
  • Obtain meaningful paid employment
  • Craft a personalized service or research project in connection with a dedicated mentor

Courses

You will work with campus staff to choose course offerings that support your learning and development during your GAP year. By working directly with staff, we can confirm that your credits will be transferable to wherever your path takes you. GAP Year students can to take at least 6–9 credits per semester, although many may choose to attend full-time.

Immersion

Our staff will work with you on a balanced mix of paid and volunteer experiences that will allow you to spend your GAP Year immersed in your passion. Even if you decide your choice is not the right fit for your career, the professional experience and skills you gain will support your future success.

Worried about the time commitment? This is YOUR experience, and we will work with you to design it.

Steps

We want to make this experience as simple as possible. Know that our coordinator will be able to walk you through each step of this process, and your experience will be tailored to your goals. But first we need to know you are interested. Fill out this interest form and expect to hear from the college within one to two business days.

After your initial discussion with our GAP Year coordinator, you can expect support to complete the Inver Hills application, FASFA, scheduling your classes and exploring what your options are for your paid experience. You will receive a free application code to apply for admissions.

Cost

  • GAP Year students can expect to take 6 or more credits each semester
  • Scholarships are available to newly enrolled applicants
  • Ask more about how you can qualify when you meet with GAP Year staff

Eligible participants

Our only requirement for this program is that you are 18 years old or older and meet the admissions criteria for Inver Hills. Our paid experience positions require their participants to be 18 or older.
