Naming and recognition event spotlights the college’s support for veterans and their families
On Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 30, 2014, an event was held in the College Center at Inver Hills Community College to celebrate the naming of the John H. Thill Veterans Resource Center. Tim Wynes, J.D., IHCC president, gave a welcoming address and introduced Shirley Thill, who recently endowed a scholarship to support veterans and their families in honor of her husband, John Thill, who passed away in February of 2012 at the age of 82. Shirley Thill spoke about her husband’s life and also introduced a large contingent of family and friends who attended the event.
John Finlay, a John H. Thill Scholarship recipient, former U.S. Marine, IHCC fine art student and president of the V.A.L.O.R. Student Club, also spoke at the celebration. V.A.L.O.R. stands for Veterans and Loved One Resources. Five Inver Hills students have received the John H. Thill Scholarship since its inception in 2013.
