Perfect weather. Record crowd
More than 475 new students, family and friends attended Kick-Off 2015 Thursday, Aug. 20, on the Inver Hills Community College main campus in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota. The weather was ideal for an outdoor event that included live music by Urban Myth Band and free BBQ.
Mike Opoku, associate director of student life and interim director of diversity and equity at the college, thanked everyone who volunteered to make Kick-Off 2015 a huge success. “We had faculty, staff, administrators and students who served on panels, served as moderators, presented in speed sessions and workshops, tabled on the mall, helped with the food, set up tables as well as the stage for the band, helped direct people and more,” Mike said. “The effort was a great overall example of teamwork, dedication and care.”
Mike reported that evaluations from students attending Kick-Off showed that the event made them feel welcome on campus. Students also felt that faculty and staff provided helpful information throughout the day. Mike also acknowledged the tremendous support provided by the college’s maintenance crew as well as Lancer Catering.
