Honoring George Floyd • Thursday, June 25, 2020 • 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.
One month after George Floyd was killed by Minneapolis police officers on Monday, May 25, 2020, Inver Hills Community College is honoring his memory by gathering faculty, staff and students from Inver Hills and Dakota County Technical College along with community members to participate in a Kneel-In for Justice. The event takes place Thursday, June 25, 2020, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will be held on the Community Garden Field south of Heritage Hall on the Inver Hills campus in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota.
The event program will be led by student and community leaders. Participation will include a kneel-in/moment of silence as well as an open mic for sharing and discussing the impact of systemic racism on black communities in Minnesota. Attendees are encouraged to bring a mask, a chair and a friend as well as signs and messages of support. Volunteers at the event will be asking health-screening questions; attendees should wear a mask throughout the event.
On the day of the event, all attendees should review COVID-19 screening information on the Inver Hills website. Individuals exhibiting or have had listed COVID-19 symptoms within the last two weeks should not come to campus to participate in the event. Individuals at increased risk for COVID-19 should discuss their attendance with a medical professional.
