Same space with a fresh vision
You may have noticed something different this fall on the campus of Inver Hills Community College. We no longer have a Center for Experiential Learning or Career Services office. Instead, we now have a single office in the College Center called the Center for Career Development and Community-Based Learning (CCD+CBL).
The changes are not limited to the center’s name, but are instead rooted deeply within the CCD+CBL mission. The Center for Career Development and Community-Based Learning builds careers and strengthens communities by engaging students in the lifelong process of career development and active citizenship through volunteerism and community service.
We accomplish our mission in the following ways:
- Provide students and alumni with the skills and experiences they need to make an impact on today’s competitive labor market.
- Work in partnership with faculty for in- and out-of-classroom learning experiences.
- Cultivate community partner relationships for volunteer opportunities, service-learning, academic internships and off-campus employment.
Located on the second floor of the College Center across from Counseling and Advising, CCD+CBL serves the following Inver Hills stakeholders:
Students and Alumni
Faculty
Employers
Benefits of working with CCD+CBL
Students need to know finding a career doesn’t happen the moment they graduate and receive their diplomas. Instead, their real-world experiences during their college years define their future success. CCD+CBL staff work with students from their first semester at Inver until their last, helping them explore their career options through:
- Volunteerism
- Community-based learning (CBL)
- Internships
- On-campus employment
- Off-campus employment via the College Central Network
Students are encouraged to identify opportunities both on campus and off to broaden their networks and harness a competitive edge. Faculty also find support at CCD+CBL. Our staff members offer help in a number of ways, including the logistics involved in adding community-based learning to course curricula as well as internship and volunteer opportunities.
Employer partnerships across the region are one of CCD+CBL greatest assets. Employers reach out to the center for assistance in sharing job leads and opportunities. Many employer partners visit our students in classrooms and clubs, sharing industry knowledge and expert information on hiring practices. Students can interact with employers through programing sponsored by CCD+CBL or meet with the Employer of the Day. To learn which employers are on campus next, check out the College Central Network schedule.
Opportunities are vast. CCD+CBL offers something for everyone in every major.
