8th annual fundraiser for hunger relief • Super Bowl LV weekend
The 8th Annual Super Bagging fundraising event takes place Super Bowl LV weekend, February 6 and 7, 2021, to support The Open Door and its mission to end hunger through access to healthy food. Last year, this event raised more than $35,000 to help alleviate hunger.
The Super Bagging fundraiser makes a huge impact on The Open Door’s hunger relief efforts. With one in four Minnesotans currently having trouble covering their household expenses, support in the way of financial gifts and volunteerism is needed now more than ever.
“Since the onset of the COVID-19 crisis, The Open Door has served double the number of people per month and anticipates similar levels of need in 2021,” said Scott Swenson, senior vice president and chief banking officer at Drake Bank in St. Paul. “This is why the Super Bagging fundraiser is so important this year.”
Scott added that due to the pandemic Super Bagging will be a bit different this year. “For the health and safety of everyone, we are not asking for volunteers to bag groceries for tips at Cub Foods locations,” he said. “Instead, we are asking for community members from across Dakota County to come together for this great cause and get involved.”
Once again a lead sponsor of this event, Drake Bank is hopeful people and organizations will support the Super Bagging fundraiser in any or all of the following ways:
- Sponsor the event at the $1,000, $750 or $500 level (see sponsor benefits sheet below)
- Make a financial gift in any amount that will be used to purchase pallets of food to be distributed at our Large Scale Distribution events
- Volunteer as an individual or a group at our outdoor Large Scale Distribution events; let us know if you are interested (see contact info below)

The Open Door Welcomes You!
The Open Door is a hunger-relief organization based in Dakota County making fresh and healthy food available to more than 14,000 people each month through its combination of a bricks-and-mortar food shelf and a collection of neighborhood-based programs. Since the onset of COVID-19 and its economic impact, the organization has scaled its operations to serve more than double the number of community members in an effort to meet increased demand using the flexibility of its Mobile Food Programs.
The Open Door has the only Mobile Food Pantry in Dakota County, serving sites in Apple Valley, Burnsville, Eagan, Farmington, Inver Grove Heights, Lakeville and Rosemount. Financial challenges, mobility issues, and a lack of transportation impact thousands of seniors and families across Dakota County and limit their access to vital nutrition. The Open Door designed their collection of Mobile Food Programs to take fresh and healthy food directly into the parts of the community where it is needed most.

The Mobile Pantry
Inver Hills Community College has partnered with The Open Door to bring the Mobile Pantry to campus. The Mobile Pantry is free for any Inver student in need of food support. The Mobile Pantry has no income requirements or residency restrictions.
Attention Students:
The Mobile Pantry bus will not be coming to campus in its typical fashion at this time. However, we have a selection of nonperishable and shelf-stable food items available near the Counseling and Advising Center on the 2nd floor of the College Center. No appointment is necessary and the food can be accessed during normal business hours Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m – 4:30 p.m., while the College Center building is open.
New! The Open Door will be hosting drive-up food distribution every Tuesday, 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Metcalf Middle School.
