Inver Hills Theatre presents
Inver Hills Theatre will present The 39 Steps, a play based on the 1935 Alfred Hitchcock thriller. The play follows the same basic storyline as the film; however a small cast and some key script changes turn it into a hilarious farce.
“It’s such a fun show. It is a fast-paced, funny thrill ride,” said Director Jason Gonzalez.
The theatrical version was adapted by Patrick Barlow from the original concept by Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon. Director Jason Gonzalez said Barlow managed to take the thriller and turn it into a comedy by having only a few actors play all the parts and conduct scene changes as part of the play.
Several years ago, Gonzalez had the opportunity to see The 39 Steps performed in New York. Gonzalez said it was one of the funniest things he had seen. He has wanted to direct the play since and this fall presented the perfect opportunity.
“It fit really well with our department’s current needs for flexible casting and design,” Gonzalez said. “It just seemed like the perfect fit for us.”
A challenging production for cast and crew, Gonzalez said this show is all about timing and precision. There are nine people in the cast as well as 10 to 12 crew members working on the show. He said the cast and crew have to depend on one another to get it right.
“This show is wild and everyone has to be on the same page the entire time,” said Gonzalez.
