The Mobile Pantry Needs Donations

Food collection goals falling dismally short for 2015

Inver Hills Community College partners with The Open Door, formerly the Eagan & Lakeville Resource Centers, to deliver the Mobile Pantry on campus. The Mobile Pantry provides free food support for Inver Hills students in need.
Tom Reis, a humans services instructor and VIBE faculty co-advisor, reported that VIBE club members have collected only 58 pounds of food donations for the Mobile Pantry in the first four weeks of spring semester. “We have a campus with nearly fifty-seven hundred students plus seven hundred faculty and staff,” Tom said. “The Mobile Pantry is still too much of a secret at Inver Hills.
Tom added that he collects food each Wednesday from the purple bins on campus and most of the time the bins are empty, filled with garbage or pushed aside. He added that VIBE’s goal for 2015 was to collect more than 1,000 pounds of food donations. At the current rate, the student club will fall critically short of meeting that goal. VIBE, which stands for Volunteering Individuals Brings Empowerment, needs help from the campus community to increase donations. Tom requested that his fellow faculty promote the Mobile Pantry in their classes to help get the word out.
