Engage in class and study effectively with the #1 recommended note-taking solution to boost knowledge, skills, and confidence
Inver Hills Community College is providing Genio Notes, a note-taking support application, free to all students. Allison Jenson, director of accessibility resources at the college, reported that the Genio Notes app allows students to make audio recordings of lectures while adding notes or thoughts to the recordings in real time.

Genio Notes can generate a transcript of the recording; students can then translate the transcript into other languages and use it to create quiz questions to boost their study skills.
“Students can upload documents and slide decks to Genio Notes, and also add links and images to their note files,” Allison said. “Recordings taken in Genio Notes can be organized and assigned due dates to assist students with organization and task completion. These files can be accessed through the app or on a web browser. Genio Notes works online or offline on any device.”

Allison added that Genio Notes provides students with additional study support to ensure they aren’t missing content during a lecture. Students may want to try out Genio Notes as a tool that can be used in conjunction with other note-taking strategies.
“This approach may help students improve their study habits by allowing them to review key concepts both visually and audibly,” she said. “Genio Notes has been used by college students all over the world, and many students have increased their ability to master content while enhancing their confidence in the classroom.”
Allison explained that Genio Notes is fairly user-friendly, but she is looking at offering a how-to workshop or two once fall semester 2025 is underway. The Genio Notes app is available now, but students will need to contact Allison to set up the app. The college is working on creating an online link to the app before the semester begins on Monday, August 25.
